subscription boxes – POPSUGAR MUST HAVES and FabFitFun VIP

It’s no secret — I love subscription boxes. I love getting little bits of fun in the mail to help balance all of the bills and other adult mail. I also love getting a chance to try out new products that I may not have bought for myself. Oh yeah, and a good deal.

POPSUGAR MUST HAVES – $39.95 month. — Use code FB5 to save $5 on your first month.

I bought this box for myself and another for my sister as a birthday gift. They had a Black Friday deal to get a single-month subscription for half off, and I couldn’t resist.

Subtle Luxury Speckled Metallic Scarf – Value $62

I wore this out for New Year’s Eve — it’s really lightweight and long enough to wrap/tie in whatever fashion you choose. The sparkles are only on one side, but it’s easy to keep that side showing.

Sparkle Pop Jewelry Sydney Pendant Necklace – Value $42

I’m not normally a wearer of gold-toned jewelry, but I will give this a shot. It’s incredibly long, so I will probably be doubling it up and wearing it as a layered necklace.

Canvas Home Dauville Bowl in Platinum – Value $29

This bowl is gorgeous! The outside is ceramic feeling and the interior is smooth and metallic. I plan on leaving this one on my vanity as a sort of “catch all” for small things I am too lazy to put away 🙂

Smashbox Be Legendary Long Wear Lip Lacquer in Bordeaux – Value $24

A little dark for me, but the quality is good. Glossy and not too sticky.

Knot & Bow Gift Package Tags – Value $4

These will be cute to tie on to gifts throughout the year 🙂

Williams Sonoma Cupcake Mix in Vanilla Bean – Value $15

I made these to take to book club a week or so ago and topped them with espresso buttercream frosting. YUM! This package made 12 cupcakes, and they were absolutely delicious!

Total Value: $160

Overall Thoughts: This was a great box! The price is a little much for me to afford on a monthly basis, but the price does go down if you get a longer subscription. Do any of you get this box? Did you enjoy December’s box?

FabFitFun — $49.99 per box (4 boxes per year) — Use the code NEW5 to save $5 on your first box

This is my third FFF box. I keep telling myself I don’t need to spend the money, but then the reveals start and I always fall in love several things!!

Lather AHA Hand Creme with Evening Primrose – Value $18

Moisturizes well and doesn’t have a strong scent, which is great for anyone that works in an office setting or has any sensitivities to smells.

Passport To Beauty Tibetan Goji Berry Intense Anti-aging Eye Serum with Retinol– Value $88

I haven’t had a chance to use this yet, so I can’t say much. I did give it a sniff though, and like the hand creme it’s not strongly scented.

Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel Sensitive – Value $39

I got a sample of this in one of my Birchboxes last year and really enjoyed it, so I was glad to see it in this box

Half United Fighting Hunger Necklace – Value $34

For every purchase of a necklace, Half United gives half the profits to feed children in need. I’m not a huge fan of the necklace itself, but I like the thought behind it.

Daniel Stone COCO White Tea Ginger Root Coconut Body Candle – Value $42.

This is a yummy scent. Plus it’s so, so it’s a win-win.

yourMinerals Eye Shadows – Value $42 total

These are made with natural ingredients, which is great 🙂 The colors and the pigmentation are both good.

Salted 3 Month Subscription – Value $30

Salted is a cooking class video subscription service that costs $9.99. I’m not sure I will use this, but a little bit of cooking lessons never hurt anyone, so I might give it a try!

Fashion Project Gift Card with Free Shipping – Value $30

Fashion Project supports charities by selling new/used donated clothing. I used this gift card to snag a J. Crew sweater and ended up spending only $1.99!

Zumba 60 Min Max DVD – Value $30

I’ve been wanting to try out Zumba but am too shy to go out in public, so I’m looking forward to trying it in the comfort of my own home!

Zumba Gift Card with Free Shipping – Value $25

I used this to snag a fun top that I can use while doing my zumba DVD!

Sponsored Items:

Organic Valley Organic Balance Milk Protein Shake – Value $2.99

Special K Snack Bar in Salted Pretzel Chocolate – Value $.50

Justin’s Classic Almond Butter – Value $.60

Everyone loves snacks, right?

Total Value: $384 (or about $285 if you don’t redeem any of the gift cards)

Overall Thoughts: I loved a lot of the stuff in this box! For me just the Zumba and Fashion Project gift cards were worth the cost, plus all of the other amazing stuff. They’ve probably got me for the spring box too 🙂

The Final Countdown

Here on the west coast I have just over 6 hours left in 2014. In a few hours I will be heading out to celebrate with friends, but for now I am sitting at home with a cat on my lap, thinking about what 2015 will bring for me. 2014 has brought a lot of changes — getting married and leaving my job being the two biggest — along with a lot of ups and down and memorable moments. I am happy with how this year has gone, but I am also looking forward to everything that will come in 2015. I may not know what will happen this year, and there will certainly be things beyond my control, but there is a lot I can do to steer it in a specific direction.

I am not particularly fond of the term “resolutions”, but instead prefer to set goals for myself. Small goals and big goals, broad goals and narrow goals, long- and short-term goals. Goals just sound more manageable. So without further ado, my goals for 2015:

1) Start my pocket-style scrapbooking kit club and build my scrapbook supply business.

2) Grow my Thirty-One businesses by recruiting 2 new consultants.

3) Blog twice per week. — Share PL layouts, recipes, life experiences, product reviews, pictures of cats… Whatever is inspiring me that week.

4) Improve my photography and photoshop skills. – Specifically product photography, as that is something I am not good at.

5) Finish a half marathon. — I don’t need to run the entire time, I just need to start and finish the race.
